The Your Defence Family Support Store has been set-up to provide practical resources for Defence children and families. To celebrate the life lived alongside our Defence partners and to support our children by helping them to stay connected when they are physically apart from their serving mum or dad. Because we too are a Defence family, I understand, and I want to ensure all families are well-equipped to thrive in this at-times challenging life style.
I actively participate in community organisations who positively support the Australian Defence lifestyle and the people within. Your Defence provides care packages to the children of our fallen and wounded serving members as well as the provision of support resources to DSTAs in schools where a child of a wounded or fallen member attends.
I say ‘me’ because I am ‘Your Defence’. My name is Brie and my three young sons are
my reason for the creation of ‘Your Defence’. In 2011 my Naval serving husband and
I experienced what the ADF affectionately term a BOM (Breakdown of Marriage). Although
this has occurred I still consider us very much an Australian Defence family. Our
children remain recognised dependants and we still manage time apart from dad as
much now as we ever did.
I strongly believe in the support and education of children living the Australian
military lifestyle and remain dedicated to the welfare and well-being of the children
and families of ADF members. I have previously worked with Defence family and community
organisations and have strong ties to the Australian Defence community. For 12 of
the 15 months between January 2008 and May 2009 my husband was deployed or absent
from home. It was during this time I was appointed National Delegate - Central NSW
for Defence Families of Australia (DFA).
My current commitments to ADF families see me working in a volunteer capacity with
the Partners of Veterans Assoc Inc, working in partnership with the charity Soldier
On in the provision of tailored care parcels for children of our wounded Service
personnel, and I have recently been appointed to the Veteran’s Children Education
Scheme (VCES) board.
