The Your Defence Alpha-book series is a wonderful way to introduce your kids to the world of Australian Defence. With simple language, fun illustrations and super-cool facts, they’ll love learning all about the Royal Australian Navy, Australian Army and Royal Australian Air Force.

 

These books are a fantastic resource for serving members who are parents or grandparents, for children of Defence members, or those who are interested in Australian Defence, for civilian spouses, parents who are new to Defence and extended relatives.

 

The books are aimed at pre-school and emergent readers, though the content is suitable for discussion with primary-school children.The books are full of readily identifiable images of each Service. The paragraphs on each page provide a brief explanation of the image, and fun facts and questions promote discussion.

 

The self-contained nature of the pages ensures the adult reader does not need a strong understanding of the Service. This encourages family members and friends to be involved during times of deployments or absences from home. Whilst these books are not specifically a deployment tool they are aimed at providing a tie to the Services and, therefore, mum or dad whether at home, or away. The activity packs received before a deployment have great activities and ideas for school-aged children with the Alpha-book series providing a strong picture focus for non-readers. They are a useful tool in encouraging conversation within support networks and families.

 

The Your Defence Crew have created these books as a positive communication tool for a Defence home. Every family lives alongside the serving member, they are affected by Defence and at times the very nature of Defence can be a serious concept for younger children. Each page is true to the Service without exposing children to complicated concepts, so parents can be comfortable with the material presented and elaborate further in their own home.

 

The common pages within the three books promote our national identity and act as a starting point for discussion on the link between our country, national pride, and the role our serving members play in representing and serving Australia.

 

Alpha-books are 21cm x 21cm in size with 32 full colour pages with a glossy easy-wipe cover.

 

The Your Defence Counting book series is due for publication in 2010.
